STRATEGY
- Paper I is numerical — practise problems daily; presentation of working notes earns marks.
- Paper II is theoretical — structure answers with headings, diagrams and management models.
- Update tax provisions annually — income tax rates and provisions change with each Finance Act.
- Solve PYQs extensively; the numerical patterns repeat.
- Do not choose this optional without a commerce background — the accounting standards and taxation portions require formal training.
Pros: objective and scoring for commerce graduates; numerical answers are unambiguous; smaller competition pool. Cons: minimal GS overlap; requires annual updating of tax law; unsuitable for non-commerce candidates.
